What is Counselling?

Sometimes, sifting through your own emotions is hard to do with no guidance. Often, we find ourselves needing to be heard, understood, and validated in not only our emotions, but also in our lived experiences.

Counselling offers us much needed clarity by creating a safe space to talk about issues that arise in our lives. Counselling also seeks to provide us with the tools we need to know how to identify and process our own feelings.

Once you make the brave decision to start the journey of counselling, your counsellor will provide you with a judgement-free, therapeutic environment where you both work together to achieve your desired outcomes.

How do I make an appointment?

We know that taking the first step is hard. We’re here to help and would love to hear from you.

You also send an inquiry here.

We will endeavour to respond within 2 business days.

What is the process if I want to see Dee?

After you have reached out to Dee to set up your initial appointment, she will contact you directly for a free and confidential phone consultation. If you choose to continue your counselling journey with us, you can arrange a full session either online or in-person.

Do I need a referral?

Whilst referrals are welcome, you do not need one to start your counselling journey.

Am I covered by Medicare/Private Health Insurance?

Our services are covered by Private Health Funds, depending on what coverage you have with your provider. However, Medicare does not offer rebates for counselling services.

Is everything I tell you in confidence?

Privacy, transparency, and trust are our ethos at Dawn to Day Counselling. We endeavour to establish a safe and therapeutic space for our clients by ensuring that your privacy and confidentiality is maintained. You can feel comfortable and confident when disclosing to our team as we adhere to a strict code of ethics from the intake process and through to the therapy sessions.
Our counsellors are guided by the Australian National Privacy Principles when protecting your personal information. Whilst your right to privacy is our utmost concern, there are extreme circumstances where your counsellor may be required to break confidentiality. Under these circumstances, your counsellor will only provide the necessary information.

These circumstances are as follows:

If your therapist is legally required to present client files during a current court case

  • If at any point during the therapeutic process, there is genuine concern or belief that a person is going to harm themselves or place another person (or minor) at risk. (In critical circumstances your counsellor might be required to contact the proper authorities without explicit consent).

  •  All counsellors and psychologists are required by law and ethics to report abuse, ongoing domestic violence, or neglect of a vulnerable person i.e. children, people with a disability or the elderly.

If I have a friend or family member who needs help what should I do?

  • If a loved one who is experiencing emotional and psychological distress and needs support beyond what you can provide, it may be time to refer them to quality mental health care treatment.

  • Minor/adolescent: Children and adolescents will often require adult intervention to refer them to and possibly schedule appointments for them.

What happens if I need to cancel my appointment?

Rescheduling or cancelling your appointment is easy.
